Seeing the invisible

A city in motion.
A financial world in data.

Behind Kuala Lumpur's skyline, money moves between people, businesses and banks. Financial crime can hide within those connections. NFCC's work brings coordination, research and analytics together to help investigators understand patterns and support Malaysia's response to scams.

  • Currency symbols ($ £ € ¥ ₿) travel the street grid and climb the towers they fund
  • Ringgit (RM) transfers glow gold; building facades scroll like live ledgers
  • Flagged transfers turn red and are stopped at pulsing checkpoints, as the NSRC freezes stolen funds

AI against financial crime

What NFCC is building under Dato' Sri Shamshun.

Since Dato' Sri Shamshun Baharin took office as Director General on 15 April 2024, NFCC has moved from coordination to capability: an AI lab, a national investigator programme, data partnerships and specialist crypto expertise.

The Anti-Financial Crime Satellite Lab

The Anti-Financial Crime Satellite Lab

In November 2024 NFCC opened the AFC Lab at UTM's Faculty of Computing in Johor Bahru, the first of its kind at any Malaysian university. It researches financial crime data to reveal patterns and trends, applies advanced analytics to enforcement, and builds integrated AI tools that help investigators identify the elements of an offence with greater precision.

Certified Financial Investigator Programme
Talent

Certified Financial Investigator Programme

Started by Bank Negara Malaysia in 2007 and now rebuilt with UTM, CFIP is a six month hybrid programme that lets investigators and deputy public prosecutors across the country build their competencies online, keeping enforcement skills in step with digital crime.

National data sharing with MIMOS

With MIMOS, the national applied research agency, NFCC is exploring how financial crime data can be collected, analysed and shared to strengthen anti money laundering, counter terrorism financing and wider prevention work across government.

NFCC coordinates the NSRC with the police, Bank Negara Malaysia and the communications regulator. Reports to 997 trigger faster detection and freezing of stolen funds, and agencies are continually improving the system against AI enabled fraud.

Crypto and blockchain specialists

With CyberSecurity Malaysia, NFCC runs a two year specialist programme to produce officers who can trace blockchain transactions and give expert evidence in court on cryptocurrency cases.
